The waves of life .
The Wi-Fi is down at the
moment I cant do any labor online so I thought why not post a blog post, typing
it offline and just posting it when the internet is active and running again, I
have been set in opening my own children’s events company next year focusing
mainly on children’s merriments, etc. In-between all of this I have had jobs pitched
my way , one specifically being the managers’ position at the Simply Asia Restaurant at the Paddocks Centre
in Milnerton. A job numerous amount of people would be thrilled about… But I’ve
done my research on the hours, the remuneration and the responsibilities and
duties I had to do if I took the position, I say got pitched because that’s precisely
what occurred. I had lunch at the restaurant with my best friend and I spoke to
the owner and then he asked if I would Like to manage the restaurant and I chuckled
as I thought he was facetious, but he told me he in all seriousness to think
about it and get back to him.. Mystified between taking on
this opportunity many would have died for or starting my own company, I asked
my Dad for some subjective business guidance as I trust his word, he is a humorous
man this was his advice to me “The thing about life is to become self sufficient
as soon as you can, Your life is not controlled by others, you determine your destiny,
you will make money by the effort you put behind it, you also decide where and
when you want to enjoy your hard earned cash, just saying …cheers” and then added
a funny part saying to look at him , he is yesterdays hero. By looking at that you can
tell his really good at giving advice and won’t force you into thinking one way
, but rather to open your awareness to other opportunities and yet leave the
ball in your court . So I have decided to really
give my future business a go ahead. Not considering any other business offers any
longer, if I don’t try I will always
wonder what if.. Lets get off the business
side of ME, and lets talk about what I am looking forward to , I am looking
forward to many things disregarding my business ,such as my birthday …. Leaving
work in December , looking forward to how much weight I would’ve lost by the
end of the year , I AM ON NO KIND OF DIET , but you know I have this belief
that no food will taste as good as your mummies home-produced cooked feasts
when you live away from home , and I think since I eat less dense meals I eat less
and thus far over the period of four months I have lost two jean sizes since I
have left home . Things I notice my parents
can afford and I cant.. Woolworths everything and anything..
;( I can only afford to buy my groceries at Pick n Pay.Takeout’s whenever or
randomly going to a restaurant , I can do take outs once a month and restaurant’s
hardly ever anymore …living is hard when you buying almost everything for
yourself and have bills to pay so I’m
gon work work work everyday … I guess that’s just the circle of life .

We could practice a little selflessness
I am a big believer in good, a very big believer. Yet I find
it so funny that people remain close to so called friends who wouldn’t lift a
finger if they were in need. What I mean to say is that hardly anything these
days can just come from the heart like pure love toward another human being,
giving a helping hand to someone and not expecting anything in return.
We live in a society where people only want themselves to benefit
from money; time and many others that no one is really interested in the way
things they do or say actually hurt a person or a peer. I am all for jokes I
take a joke quiet well, I can insult a peer only if I know we have that level
of understanding that the insult actually comes from the heart and not just
because you are trying to be nasty.
It seems that we as a society have this attitude of
completely misunderstanding a situation. I can tell you I have a hand full of friends,
literally the amount I can count on both my hands, the ones that make effort
for you or just check up how you are doing once in a while the ones you don’t
have to speak to constantly but yet every once in a while will get a phone call
to catch up and make plans in real life not just say that you need to make
plans and then never come round to doing it. The diamonds in the rough that
carry you through all life and its struggles and other exceedingly happy times.
I don’t like jealously, its something I can’t stand. The
only person your hurting is yourself. The people I am talking about is the ones
that decide to make other plans to spite you because something from work came
up or you literally have a family members birthday to attend. There is no other way to put it …but as the
spiteful ones.
Its taken me many years to figure out who these people are,
but people who have any intention of doing something to hurt you directly after
you’ve done nothing wrong is not worthy of being a friend in your life, friends
should be their to uplift you, to tell you the hardcore truth that nobody would
want to tell you but because they don’t want you to get hurt or make silly
decisions and they will be open enough to give you their heart felt opinion.
I am not saying you need to be the perfect friend, I know we
all have our flaws, trust me I have a lot where that comes from but does it
really hurt you or the ones around you to be genuinely caring and loving
without expecting to get that love or kindness back in any form.
Expectations are the main cause to people feeling upset, its
not about how much effort the one friend puts in that the effort you show to
the friendship should be the same. Its hard to find genuine people these days
who are so open to giving so much love to others without any expectations but
the one and only outcome being that they feel better about themselves for being
a caring person and helping their peers out. I encourage everyone to be a
little kinder, open, giving and mostly more understanding you really never know
how much people appreciate it.

The future depends on what we do in the present - Mahatma Ghandi
I was looking back on my previous blog posts and scrolled to
my very first one, which was the one I introduced myself on and what I was
currently doing and what I had planned for my future looking back I’ve noticed
so much things have changed so much things I said I would be doing that I never
did and some that has stayed the same over the years..
In this post I’ll be updating you on what I thought I would
be doing versus what I’m actually doing just to give you some perspective of
how life changes without you even realizing it yet it makes no difference to
path you take to where you’d like to be in life .
In my first post I mentioned that I was going to further my
studies at CPUT the next year after I finished my international Event Management
diploma at prestige academy which never happened , I was planning to take a gap
year as you would see in one of the blog posts I wrote a while after that and
travel for three months backpacking, that also never happened. With all that
being said it was for good reason, I wanted to get on my feet in the Event
Industry and I thought travelling would just delay my process of doing just
that.
So I actually started working for a sistering company to the
company I did my internship at (Dish food & Social) called Black Zebra
events at the beginning of this year , I stayed there for two months and then I
started to work for my dad for a while, but I realized that working in the
accounts section of my business was not my passion , I although did gain a lot of
respect for having this job as it’s not
as easy as one seems . I decided to do a year’s work at the company I did my
internship at to get a year of experience on my C.V in the event I in the
future I am looking for a job at another company also in the event I didn’t
start my own company and needed some sort of experience behind my name.
Starting my own company is one thing that has remained
constant in all of this, I still strive to be successful in the industry I have
a deep felt passion for as I know this is what I would enjoy, I don’t want to
start to late even though I am 21 years of age I have a drive of wanting to be
where I’m comfortable at a young age knowing it’s all because of the hard work
and effort I put in to see my future company grow and expand..
The other thing I mentioned was I would stay in a flat in
Cape Town if I studied further at CPUT, I
am staying in a flat but not because of studies but to be closer to work and
not have to worry about traffic. I will however be moving back home next year
as I will be renting space from my dad to start up my company which is again
closer to Kuils River and our family home.
People often say that you never really end up where you
think you are going to end up, but I don’t take that to heart I’ve had this
dream since I matriculated and I can say I honestly took the road less travelled
in studying what I have studied because people do not know what the event
industry has to offer and how wide the job field with this qualification
actually are. Not having everyone’s full support I passed my three years of
studying with not a single rewrite only because it was my passion and I strived
to achieve in those three years.
I also grew while studying, nobody saw me the way I was
before yes I enjoyed school every bit of it, I excelled quietly, so quietly I
never expected my parents to come to prize giving’s because I believed I would
never get one ,grade 10 they didn’t come and that was the year I came home with
two awards… hahhahaah (I underestimate myself all the time.) but I never
excelled beyond my expectations as I did at Prestige academy .
Becoming class
rep for two years in a row and operations head of events the last two years of
my studies wasn’t something I thought would happen when I walked into the door
of the institution I thought I would always be a follower but that changed.
I might sound like I am boasting but I’m proud to say I’ve
chosen an industry according to what I knew I would achieve in ,and I can say
this industry as crazy as it might be was everything I dreamt it would be if
not even more.

Keenen's belated birthday and other random things
The missing was terrible , after being able
to see Keenen every weekend and some times during the week, two weeks of
holiday away from him felt a bit long , no I am not an overly obsessed girlfriend
but Keenen has become my best friend, the one who will point out how weird I am
constantly and have no shame in being around me even though I am quite an odd
ball.. Through the years I have never
missed his birthday ,and I have always made it a bit special either by filling
my car with balloons that I cant see out my back window ,or going for supper at
one of our favourite restaurants. It was quite a thing to miss his birthday
this year.
So I fetched Keenen on the 25th of June after his exam in Cape Town, we dropped my bags off at the flat and decided to
go for lunch I was in the mood for a platter of seafood at ocean basket but as we were driving I was like hey why
don’t we make this more special … We ended up going to Kalk Bay and sharing a
platter there it was so yummy and it was the perfect way to spend my first day back in Cape Town.
We went a bit further found a pick n pay
because I needed to do grocery shopping….. I must add Keenen is the most
awesome person to go grocery shopping with his better at it then me……
We spent the rest of the evening at the
flat with some coffee and watched some series and snacked on some of the
overseas goodies I brought back. The perfect way to spend Keenen’s Belated
birthday with him ..
Oh and on the 11th of July 2015 we will be together for four years......
I love you babe :) .
Some pictures.....
Platter of seafood , we were to hungry to take a picture before we started eating. Some random date pictures of before...mostly food because we both enjoy eating... |

Travel Opens The Window To The World.
On the 11th of June 2015 my
family and I set out on a last minute journey to Ireland and Mauritius.
At first I was not excited one bit, it was almost
as if I lost my desire to travel … but as soon as I was roaming the streets of
another country there was nothing I wanted to do more, realizing that I have
been fortunate enough to go to 10 different countries in the space of 21 years.
It took 4 flights and 2 days to arrive in Ireland,
from Cape Town International to Johannesburg International Airport, from
Johannesburg International Airport to Abu Dhabi International, from Abu Dhabi
International Airport to Dublin International Airport.
The reason for this random family vacation
is because my cousin Simone Robertson (now Taffe) got married in Carlingford
Ireland, that makes the reason not very random anymore,Our Last family vacation being
Zanzibar 3 years ago.
If you know me well enough you’d know I do
not eat airplane food something about it just doesn’t agree with me so I
thought I would give it a go on this trip … and I just couldn’t stand it. I am not
picky but for some reason various types of food makes me feel really ill.
Our first evening in Ireland we got lost on
route to our accommodation … don’t even say GPS … GPS does not work in Ireland.
So following a piece of paper with directions of where to go had to work.
Except for us it did not.
We ended up having supper with my Aunt and
Uncle near the accommodation they were staying in Ardee at a pub called Brian
Muldoon & Sons, I had a delicious 8 oz. steak with a double vodka and lemonade,
I don’t usually drink but when in Ireland do as the Irish do…
Oh and at this point we still had no idea
where we would be staying, as we had not found it yet. My Uncle escorted us to
our accommodation, which we eventually found in Dhonamoyne … it was absolutely
beautiful … three words, cows, country and a cute little hillside cottage. I
think that is when I fell in love with Ireland …it was perfect.
Saturday 13th June, The Day has arrived,
Alan and Simone’s wedding day. Yay!!
The Ceremony was held at a church in Ardee
where Alan is originally from , after that we set off to our next location where
we would also be staying the night, The Four Seasons Hotel in Carlingford …
Food so much of it four course meal and then at 11 a buffet table with more food. The wedding was beautiful and really tied in the
aspects of the Irish Background with some traditional Irish Dancing and river
dancing.
I must say I thought the wedding would end
when the sun went down. I was drained so I went to be early being 1am in the
morning and yet the wedding continued to the crack of dawn the next day.
14th June 2015, at the four
seasons hotel the wedding quests attended a BBQ lunch which also carried on till early
evening hours, We explored the town of Carlingford with the cutest little shops
and bakeries as well as a Castle: D
We took a drive to surrounding areas being
Gillesquay which was a beach that had
jelly fish that looked like they came straight from Sponge Bob,from there we
went to Dundalk, which had a mall … a very bad mall where we grabbed some
Starbucks and went found a shop called Primark .. which is like having the
prices of Mr Price here but the quality of Edgars…
From Dundalk we went to Black Rock ,… why ?
My Uncle and my dad thought it would be
a great idea to have some ice cream …it was freezing (but we had ice cream !!) my
dad also tried some pesto and told the lady we would be back for more … which
never happened.
After all the exploring we had another Pub supper
with the wedding guests in Ardee where I discovered fat frogs… fat frog is an Irish
drink with contains smirnoff ice , KWD vodka and I cant seem to remember the third
cider but it was soooo good.
15th June 2015- MOMS BIRTHDAY
YAAAYYY!!
Breakfast in Ardee at Muldoons & Sons
pub for moms birthday ..We explored Cabra castle where My Dad and I had tea and
scones with our pinkies in the air . My dad dropped Nicole and I in
Carrickmacross which was the town we came upon by accident on the first day of
arriving in Ireland, we explored the town walked its streets and decided to
have a beer at a pub in the town …After all we needed to do that before we left
otherwise we wouldn’t have had the full Irish experience , we got serenaded by
two of the pub regulars with a harmonica and some Irish tunes and was ended off with Good luck South Africa….
The Evening we went out for supper for my
moms birthday at a restaurant called Dooley’s .. we got there at 8 and ended up
staying there till past 12 the evening only because the sun was still up and
the time thing throws you out completely it was lovely , Good Conversation was
held , many jokes made and this was also the last time we would be seeing
Simone and Alan for a while .
16 June 2015 .. We woke up and left early
the morning we would be flying back to Johburg the evening and wanted to do
some last minute exploring .My parents stayed at the airport and Nicole and I
hopped on a bus to Dublin city , the place most people would go to first when
they arrive in Ireland ,we literally went on our very last day … We explored
Temple Bar and had some mc dees only because it was the easiest and the most
suitable for our South African pockets.. We went on an Irish Whiskey Tour which
was actually amazing and made me want to read up on Irish Whiskey history … Dublin
city had many beautiful historical churches and buildings . We rushed around
and ended the day off with two cocktails at the hard rock café.. and we got one
for free …. Expensive but worth every cent literally …
The music sounded great in hard rock café
and knowing me I went to check out their speakers around the restaurant … Bose
and Yamaha everywhere…..
We took a bus back to the airport shoved
all the gifts in my bag as it was the biggest they weighed the bags and mine
weighed 29.8 kg the max weight being 30kg yay I made the weight limit by
200g….. ;//
We flew to Abu Dhabi then Johnurg , where
we stayed over at lakeview hotel and the next day we flew to the lovely island
of Mauritius …
18th June 2015 we landed at
Mauritius Airport on the North of the island .we got taken to our hotel on the
South of the island via our hotels shuttles services, the drive was 1hr and 15
minutes long not far considering you are travelling to the other side of the island.
We stayed at Le Mauritia hotel we took a
half board package which included breakfast and supper each night as well as
free snorkeling , a glass bottom boat ride and other various water activities .
Each night had a different cuisine in the style of a buffet the first night we
arrived it was Chinese cuisine which was amazing …after that we got some much
needed rest
19th June 2015
We had a briefing ,which we overslept for
….we took a 10 minute walk to town and had some seafood at a local restaurant
which was so beautifully plated ,We lazed on the beach trying to catch a tan
and then enjoyed a Mauritian style buffet supper which had lots of spices and a
whole bunch of coconut infused goodies .The evening entertainment was some
tradition Mauritian dances , which we got taught (cant watch face)
20th June 2015
4 days till we went home meaning it was 5
days till I got to see Keenen … We went on the seven coloured earth tour which
took us around the island through the nature reserve ,to a temple ,to a
volcanic crater , the the remains of a volcanic eruption which left the sand in
several different colours and is now preserved for tourists , We went to a
waterfall as well as a rum factory called la chamerelle where we tasted way to
many clean shots of rum and enjoyed a lovely three course meal … The bus drive
back was filled with life and laughter after the tour and we made a stop to
view Clam island as the land around the ocean is in the shape of a clam . We
had coconut cake with is basically dried coconut mixed with water, sugar and
some coffee it tasted like heaven on earth!!
The evening we had A South African cuisine
buffet that consisted of lots of barbequed and red meat items. we decide to go
to the hotels downstairs club, more amazing good quality speakers playing in
your eardrums , not a painful sound but clear volume .we danced a bit and then
sat outside chatting before heading to bed.
21st June 2015
We
went on a glass bottom boat the morning and then explored the Grand Bizaar I
got a henna tattoo and went tubing ,and the evening Nicole and I went for a Hot
Stone Massage and then We met up with another South African couple for an A la Carte
meal at the hotel . We watched the band play and had an easy night in.
22nd June 2015
We went tubing … AGAIN and rested the day .. We were at this point
sore from walking and wanting to do everything we possibly could with time we
had.
23rd June 2015
Nicole being he adventurous one out us
wanted to do this thing called sea kart …. Basically in essence it’s a little
boat very little boat with a jet ski engine in it and you go over waves and
stuff like that…basically like a miniature version of a speed boat … I went
with her and one of my biggest fears is water any water … I Almost drowned when
I was little and I think ever since I’ve been a bit scared … that and the fact
that you don’t know what creatures are
lurking beneath you ..that being said there was a stage we were deep in the
middle of the ocean where the ocean isn’t clear anymore because its so
deep its actually dark dark blue where we had to turn our little jet ski boats
off and I freaked out was okay being in the boat as long as it was moving but
as soon as it stopped I freaked out ….
So then we stopped in the middle of the
ocean in this little seakart … I was happy when we were allowed to move again
but on our way back Nicole took a sharp turn where I was facing the water and I
remember it so clearly it was not sea weed it was not a shark or fish it was a
thing three times the size of our little sea cart next to me …… I could’ve peed
my pants right there…. I was just thankful when we arrived back on the Island
safely and I was on land. I’m not sure what it was is but I thought it had to
be a whale the thing was huge!!
On our way back we stopped at Port Louis Waterfront,
the waterfront of Mauritius we had some prawns and cocktails before heading b back
to the hotel
Supper that night was an Indian buffet.
24th June 2015
Good Bye Mauritius ,you,your people,your
friendliness, kindness, and honesty will always be remembered. Although I was a
bit saddened by the fact it was time to leave already I was missing my own
space a bit … I got converse today yay and some souvenirs for my momsly and
then packed all the last things and then off to the airport we went…
I wont bore you with the flights back to
Cape Town , but what I took from this experience is that I love to travel and
the bug has hit me once again…this experience has opened my eyes to seeing that
I cant work just to live comfortably I need to make an earning good enough to
be able to travel … you can pay for so much things in this life …but there’s no
amount that can be put next to experiences.
And
I for one Plan to experience different
countries quite a bit

business matters
Hi,
everyone I hope this wintery confusing weather has got none of you by surprise … to me it feels like a
normal Cape Town winter.
Today’s topic on my blog will
be the start up of my company. The excitement is overshadowed at this point by
the fate of wanting this to be a success and being terrified that this idea
wont work out the way I have planned or dreamt it to be.
I am 21 years old and I have this unbelievable
drive and motivation to get where I want to be, to become a successful business
woman … I Have a 10 year plan
and in these ten years I hope to be self sufficient in every aspect, don’t get me wrong I do want
to get married and have children …but I don’t expect my Husband to be the soul or only bread
winner. I am a strong believer in equality, I was brought up that way, and I
have kept that mind set.
My
business will be small but operational by the beginning of July; I will be
starting off with hiring beverage dispensers and fondue sets as well as the
organization of children’s birthday parties. Closer to the start of this new venture I will
post the website on my blog for everyone to look at as well as post it on
Facebook.
As
I see it in the past woman were not as fortunate to pursue their passion at the
same extent as men were. The opportunities that are present in this day and age
are limitless and I want to make sure that I use the initiave to be happy. Not
for money but to know I have worked my way to where I want to be and know I
have paved my way to get there.
This
might be a long post but I need to highlight a few things. People often try and
throw it in my face that my dad has his own company and that therefore it is
easier for me. There is a huge difference between being spoilt and being a
daddy’s girl.
My
dad has never spoon fed me …ever… I have always had to
find out how to do things on my own, from changing my tyres on my car to
building my own bed, hanging my own pictures on my wall. I even got my license
without him knowing about it. My car broke down at work and I had to make my
own arrangements all he did was call and asked if I came right. Trust me there were countless amount of times
where I wanted to cry because I did not understand why he wouldn’t just help me like
other Dads do for their little girls.
Looking
back I know why, I am capable of doing so much on my own, I don’t have to call for help
and I have become very independent because of this and more than often its to
thank my parents and the way the I was brought up.
I
know I can be difficult but I am actually writing this post to say thank you,
thank you Mom and Dad for your continued love and support through all my life
decisions and for making my upbringing in such a way that my mind set is always
positive and always driven in every circumstance.
